GST, HST, PST, RST, and QST in Canada
The federal GST (5%) applies nationwide. Provinces either:
- Charge GST only (Alberta, NWT, Nunavut, Yukon)
- Add PST/RST on the pre-tax price (BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan)
- Use harmonized HST (Ontario, Atlantic provinces)
- Apply GST + QST in Quebec — QST is calculated on the GST-inclusive amount
