How to change audio speed online
Playback rate controls how fast the clip runs. Lower rates stretch time for practice; higher rates compress duration for skimming. This tool previews rate live, then exports with your chosen settings.
- Upload a file — MP3, WAV, and other browser-decodable formats work.
- Open Speed — the Speed panel is selected automatically on this page after you load audio.
- Dial the rate — preview while playing. Combine with Pitch separately if you need speed and pitch to move independently.
- Export — save the result. Processing stays on your device.
Speed vs pitch
Classic tape-style speed changes also shift pitch. This editor separates Speed (rate) from Pitch (semitone shift with tempo-preserving processing). Use Speed alone when you mainly care about duration. Open the Audio Pitch Changer when you need a higher or lower key without racing the beat.
Good use cases
- Slow guitar or piano practice tracks without leaving the browser.
- Speed lecture or meeting recordings to find a section faster, then trim.
- Fit a voiceover into a fixed video slot by nudging rate slightly.
- Shorten WhatsApp-style voice notes before attaching them elsewhere.
Tips for clean results
- Extreme rates can sound unnatural — try modest changes first (for example 0.8×–1.25×).
- Trim silence before speeding up so you do not amplify long gaps.
- Export WAV for another round of editing; use MP3 for sharing.
