Instagram Stories use a full-screen 9:16 format at 1080×1920 pixels. Landscape photos need substantial vertical extension — content-aware fill handles this by stretching low-variation regions at the top and bottom.
Keep important text and logos in the center band: Instagram UI covers the top ~14% and bottom ~20% of the frame on most devices.
When to use Fill Frame vs Smart Crop
Fill Frame is the default for Stories because most sources are wider than 9:16. Use Smart Crop only when your source is already taller than the Story frame.
